"[The Curt Miller Magic & Comedy Show] was a unique event and one that I don't recall in my magic lifetime of any other local magician ever having done something like
this around these parts. There are not many touring magic shows today and with the rising gas costs, it's no wonder.
But higher costs mean people take shorter vacations or stay closer to home to enjoy things they may not have seen or done. All the stars aligned to help make Curt Miller's Comedy and Magic Show at Moody Gardens a hit. This is due in no small part to his consummate skill as an entertaining showman and businessman. Curt has been performing in Galveston, TX (just 45 miles south of Houston) for nearly two weeks to thousands of people. Yes, I mean thousands. The Moody Gardens Spa Hotel and Convention Center set up a gigantic stage for Curt complete with sound, lights, seats and everything.
There were even two image magnifier screens flanking the stage so everyone could clearly see everything through the aid of a video camera. Curt performed two shows daily from July 2 through the 13th in the 1,000 theatre and he consistently played to nearly sold out audiences. On the Friday night I attended, he had at least 600 people in attendance. Curt's demeanor and presence on stage was a delight and he held his audiences spellbound for his 90 minute show.
One of the things I liked about his show was that it was not all about him. Curt recognized the audience and interacted with them like few other magicians I've seen. In particular, there were several times throughout the show that everyone participated whether it was tossing around a beach ball to select a volunteer or everyone doing a group wave. He established his characterearly in the program with his soft style that immediately won over the audience. Young and old alike could see that he was just having as good of a time as those in his audience....I heard a man behind me remark, "I didn't know this show was going to be this good." His wife later remarked, "This is awesome."
This was a very fulfilling and satisfying show that proves that stage magic can play in our area. I hope that Curt returns again to reprise this experience for all of us."
